Long Loops Toddler Sunhat (3T-4T)

Finally, the third part of the Toddler set is here! The set is complete, and now you can make the sunhat! When I was a child I got sunburned – a LOT. So I’ve been trying to keep my child safe in the sun, which means staying in the shade, applying lots of sunscreen, and – of course – a hat to match every outfit!

The brim is just wide enough not to flop in her eyes, and just wide enough to offer cover from the sun. And, of course, if you use Caron Cotton Cakes like I did, it’s WASHABLE! So wear it in the pool and when it (inevitably) gets pulled off her head and lands in the mud, you can just throw it in the washing machine!

So without further ado, here is the third and final piece of the toddler set, the Sunhat:

Unless otherwise noted, ch2 or ch1 at the beginning of each round does NOT equate to a stitch, so you will make the first stitch in the same stitch. Ch4 at the beginning of a round DOES equate to a stitch, so you will slip stitch at the end of the round to the 4th chain to close the round.

Special Stitches:

Long Loop Stitch, topped with 4 Sc: Yarn over, insert hook in first stitch, yarn over, pull thru stitch, and PULL TALL (dc or tr height) (3 loops on hook). **From this point on, it is helpful to keep a finger over the yarn on your hook, to make sure the tall loops do not shorten.** Yarn over, insert hook in same (first) stitch, yarn over, pull thru stitch, and PULL TALL (5 loops on hook). Yarn over, insert hook into SECOND stitch, yarn over, pull thru stitch, and PULL TALL (7 loops on hook). Yarn over, insert hook into same (SECOND) stitch, yarn over, pull thru stitch, and PULL TALL (9 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull thru 8 loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull thru two loops (1 loop on hook).  Insert hook back thru the center of the 8 long loops, and perform 4 sc thru the center of and around all 8 threads of the tall loops just created.  This should create a small hole in the center of the loops.  See pictures below.  This is a little complicated, so here’s a GREAT youtube tutorial of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMo84x12Zhs
