Spanish Siesta

Get ready for a modern take on Flamenco! Though there’s no polka dots or ruffles, the puffs of this top are reminiscent of polka dots, and because of their weight, this top flows and moves very similarly to a ruffled blouse! The pretty purple stripes are also vibrant like traditional flamenco dresses, and this top has an “everyday” quality that you can wear during your daily siesta!

This is a fun tight-fitting raglan top with plenty of puff texture! Made in worsted weight cotton, this slightly lacy top is sure to please. Wear over a tank or make a long version for a beachy cover up!

Yarn:

You can use any worsted (#4) weight cotton yarn. I used Caron Cotton Cakes in color Grape Jam.

Caron Cotton Cakes work up beautifully, never split, and come out of the wash exactly like they go in (but clean, lol!). I love working with worsted cotton yarn, partly because it works up so fast, but also because it shows texture so well. This one doesn’t disappoint!

Inspiration:

This pattern was first published in Happily Hooked Magazine’s “Cultural Crochet” issue, but the inspiration for it came nearly a year earlier! It was my first raglan top, and I wanted a yarn eater; so puffs were a no-brainer! I loved the look of the puffs offset by the dc’s, and it helped that the flow of the fabric was perfect for a light spring blouse!

Construction:

This raglan blouse is worked top down in turned rows. It’s super simple, and a perfect way to practice the Sideways Puff Stitch!
